15 Minutes of Shame music video

Written by Kelly Archer, Casey Kessel, and Justin Weaver, Kristy Lee Cook recorded "15 Minutes of Shame" and released it in August 2008 as the debut single from her album Why Wait. This single is also her first entry on the Billboard country charts, reaching a peak of #28 in November 2008

"15 Minutes of Shame" centralizes on the female narrator, who explains that she is going to tell everyone what she knows about her partner's lies and infidelities ("Every single lie you told, I'm tellin'"). She promises that "every girl in the world's gonna know [his] name", and that she hopes he enjoys his "15 minutes of shame" for his actions.

Kristy Lee Cook gets record deal amid PETA controversy

Kristy Lee Cook may have a new best friend in Blake Shelton, when he discovers she has become a target of PETA for her own targets.

American Idol alum Kristy Lee, who lost her recording contract a while ago, has been a busy girl lately. She has a new TV program on the Versus cable channel that airs on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. called Goin' Country. The eight episode show will have special guests like Jake Owen and Aaron Tippin joining Kristy Lee as she hunts in Wisconsin and Illinois while also trying to get a recording contract.

Mission accomplished on that final bit since Kristy Lee today announced on Twitter that she has obtained a new recording contract.

Well now we know how the show's season will finish, but it will be interesting to see how controversial the show will be as PETA has already made public statements concerning it prior to the second episode being aired.

On their blog today, PETA posted:

"American Idol season seven runner-up Kristy Lee Cook is doing anything she can to get her '15 Minutes of Shame.' In her new television show on Versus (formerly the Outdoor Life Network), Kristy is traveling around the country shooting animals. It sounds like she must have had those tired old defenses of hunting hammered into her as a kid, because she isn't embarrassed to float the incredibly old saw that hunters somehow help animals … by killing them while they're in the woods with their families minding their own business.


"We hope Kristy will realize that her quest for fame would be better served by following in the footsteps of two of her fellow Idol alums-turned-country-stars. Vegetarian and Idol winner Carrie Underwood, for instance, has won five Grammy Awards and had 13 straight number one singles, while Kellie Pickler—our 2009 Sexiest Vegetarian winner—sold more than 800,000 copies of her debut album. And sensational Simon Cowell condemns fur, promotes spaying and neutering, and shot a public service announcement urging people not to leave dogs in hot cars.


"Now is the time for Kristy to use her powerful voice as a weapon and hang up her gun collection for good."

To which, Kristy Lee responded on Fox411:

Kristy Lee Cook returns to TV with her own hunting show!

Country singer Kristy Lee Cook, who gained fame singing Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA during the seventh season of American Idol, is the star of Goin' Country, which debuted this weekend on Versus network.

The show follows Kristy as she travels throughout the country hunting such fare as deer, pheasants, and turkeys. Along the way, she also works at landing a recording contract

"I’m hoping that people will see the hunts as a chance to hang with family and friends and share an experience. It’s so much fun in the outdoors, and when you harvest something for the meat, it really means much more than just going out to the grocery store and buying it," Cook told Fox News blog Fox411.

"I never used to like killing animals until I got out and experienced it. It’s the food chain. Animals are here for us to eat. In my family, we grew up without a lot of money, so I take all this meat home and anything that’s left we give to homeless shelters or orphanages so all the meat is going somewhere and I get to feed all these people."

The next episode of Goin' Country debuts Sunday at 9:00 AM ET.
